Dutch Uncles: Cadenza(Memphis Industries)

The long awaited second album from Manchester art-rockers Dutch Uncles is finally here. Entitled Cadenza, (Italian word meaning a complex solo in a music piece) Cadenza is a very solid and well-written album. Released two years after the debut album Dutch Uncles, Cadenza has definitely been worth the wait and the anticipation.

Opening the album with its very own title track, ‘Cadenza’ is very enthralling. The bouncy piano intro tickles the dancing nerves in your body and you’ll find yourself moving along to the song as it progresses. A really fun song to start the album. As with ‘Sting’, the backing instrumental is made faint whenever the verses kick in. This contrast taken with the noteworthy guitar work, leaves behind a great impression which will make you listen to ‘Sting’ on repeat.

A track loved by not just me, but the band members themselves, ‘X-O’ is definitely a highlight of this album. It is actually the first song I ever heard off this album, and my mind was blown away when I listened to it. It’s chorus is very catchy and I must admit ‘X-O’ has taken my breath away for a good ol’ while.

Another highlight of ‘Cadenza’ would be ‘The Ink’. ‘The Ink’ has previously been released as a single on its own, and it’s one of my favourite tracks by Dutch Uncles. The relentless guitar riffs inject so much energy into the track, with the drums echoing its effects.

Having listened to the whole album, it’s not hard to comment on the fact that Dutch Uncles have matured musically a lot from their self titled debut ‘Dutch Uncles’. I believe Dutch Uncles have been experimenting a lot in the studio, and Cadenza is their impressive final product.
