secretrivals

‘What’s on ya Turntable’ is a new regular playlist feature from GIITTV. Where we ask some of our favourite acts to pick us some tracks that would appear on their IPOD shuffle. Or if you’re old school simply a lazy afternooon day spent playing your favourite vinyl records.First up are Oxford based four piece Secret Rivals who recently announced that they will be playing this year’s Bestival festival.

This follows the warm reception to their quality recent single ‘Tonight Matthew, on the Kittiwake ‘a frantic frenzy of energy and melodies’ that’s lo fi noise and vocal sparring draws favourable comparisons with Los Campesinos and Johnny Foreigner. Secret Rivals have a 9 track mini album in the works for this Autumn. (Listen below).

So let Secret Rivals guide you through their not so secret playlist:

1. Everyone says that your so fragile – Idlewild

We heart Idlewild massively hear in camp Rival The ‘Captain’ EP was the blueprint of everything I wanted our band to be, This track from there debut full length ‘Hope Is Important’ is the band at its scuzzy, erratic best, a bit R.E.M a bit Black Flag…loves it!

2.Rabbit Kids – Shrag

Perfect indie pop, Life Death Prizes was my album of 2010 and its still a mainstay on my ipod!

3.The Rat – The Walkmen

Andrew (Rivals bass) would probably not be too pleased with me if I didn’t add this track…..I still remember being sent vids of the bands debut Letterman performance and being gob smacked.

4.Slat Pepper And Spinderella – Johnny Foreigner

Tune! nuff said I think!

5.The Killing Moon – Echo And The Bunnymen

Clouds Rival absolutely loves this kind of stuff, Ian McCulloch’s voice is immense!

6. Young Adult Friction – The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart

One of my favourite bands of the moment, they seem to be getting bigger and better with each release, This track is a personal fave from their debut full length..class!

7. Slavador – Jamie T

Jamie T is god round our house, to the point ive spent the best part of 2 years aping him!

8. Pictures Of You – The Cure

My year was made when Rob Da Bank told us we would be playing this years Bestival with The Cure…..i like to relax to this tune when the excitement gets a bit much.

We are playing this years Bestival event
