Breathe Carolina – Hell Is What You Make It (Fearless Records)

BC cover 900x900

For those of you who believe that music genre cannot be moulded together, than perhaps now is the time to eat your words. According to the online knowledge machine that is Wikipedia, Breathe Carolina are apparently characterised as an ‘electronica rock music duo’. Their new record ‘Hell Is What You Make It’ perhaps suggests otherwise; it is a musical explosion of sound, with hints of rock, electronica, screamo, pop and even slight dubstep! In other words, it is like a hand picked array of sound, whacked in a blender to produce a deliciously whipped genre smoothie.

On paper this should surely sound awful, or perhaps even slightly strange, but not at one point to you find yourself putting your finger in your ears. The lyrics are instantly carved into your brain, with fun beats that have you whipping your hair so bad you could rival Beyonce.

Every song sounds amazing; with its own stamp on different. Stand out tracks are hard to put your finger on, as it is so exciting for its entirety. One minute you are moshing to a verse in ‘Wooly’, and then the track flip reverses on you within seconds and you find yourself raving along to its next few beats. Music like this is just so stimulating for its listener and undoubtedly proves that we are in severe genre development.

Seeing this live must be one hell of an experience; if these guys can pull this off then not only have they made themselves a unique record, but they have also honed the trophy of on stage wow factor.

Breathe Carolina are hitting up the UK next month, so be sure to go check them out! If this album is anything to go by then the best advice for you would be, wear good shoes, you are certain to be dancing to their epicness through their entire set list!
