R.E.M. decide to ‘call it a day.’

R.E.M. just posted the following message to their website:

“To our Fans and Friends: As R.E.M., and as lifelong friends and co-conspirators, we have decided to call it a day as a band. We walk away with a great sense of gratitude, of finality, and of astonishment at all we have accomplished. To anyone who ever felt touched by our music, our deepest thanks for listening.” R.E.M.

 

It’s hardly a suprise given the limp retreads that made up much of the content on their last three albums, but it’s a sad day nevertheless. Farwell Anthens, Georgia’s favourite sons R.E.M. Who were arguably one of the most consistantly likeable rock bands of the last thirty odd years.
