This week Experimental pop / electronic artist Torgny (Torgny K. Amdam) released his follow up to previously released Oslo, 31. August EP; the esteemed musical contribution to Cannes Film Festival-debuted film of the same name. The latest EP release, entitled Trilogy EP, celebrates the songs from the award-winning music video trilogy directed by Emil Trier.

The accompanying videos to the Trilogy EP document the lives of young people in contemporary Scandinavia: Kids in a rural town in their vintage Volvos (The Only Game), privileged suburban girls celebrating their graduation (Big Day), and Sami kids on their snow scooters up in Kautokeino, northern Norway (I Came Here). It is a truly unique proposition for a director and artist to present a video trilogy of such conceptual and original vigor. Each original track is supported by an exclusive remix, carefully selected to explore the original songs in new dimensions. The first, ‘Big Day’, comes courtesy of London electronic duo Plant Plants, whose work with Simian Mobile Disco’s Jas Shaw has clearly influenced the abstract yet tactile production of the remix. Bergen based DJ/Producer Terje Bakke gives ‘The Only Game’ the Sunday afternoon treatment, delivering a subtle, yet psychedelic take of the original song.

Director Emil Trier, who created the videos accompanying the audio release, is best known for his poetic take on reality, combining an aesthetic and documentarian approach. Trier made the award winning and SXSW featured film ‘Board Control’ (about Norway’s skateboard prohibition from 1978-1989) and ‘The Norwegian Solution’ (a cinematic investigation into the workings of an ammunition company). The video for ‘The Only Game’ won Best Scandinavian Music Videoat Bergen International Film Festival, competing against the likes of Mew and Fever Ray.
