Play Fest, Norwich – Festival Preview

Play Fest2nd/3rd June 2012 – New Eccles Hall, Quidenham, Norwich

Norwich’s fast-growing fledgling music festival Play Fest is all set for it’s second year with a massive lineup of acts filling the bill over the June Jubilee weekend.

Planning to build on the success of it’s inaugural year and subsequent Best New Festival 2011 nomination, Play Fest has announced Feeder and Ash as the 2012 main stage headliners along with Roots Manuva and The Correspondents as headliners of the Play Fest Big Top.

The countdown is well and truly underway and with just under a month to go until all the fun and frivolities of the festival kick off, Play Fest has just added even more to the bill including UK Garage legend and Kiss FM stalwart DJ EZ to the Saturday, and drum’n’bass supremo Sub Focus to the Sunday.

The latest additions join an already full to bursting bill of acts that include the headliners above along with The Pigeon Detectives, Reverend and the Makers, Shy FX, Zinc, Toddla T and Jaymo & Andy George.

Other lineup highlights include The Big Pink, Scroobius Pip and Natty, three acts that have taken alternative routes into their respective indie-pop, hip-hop and reggae genres.

Along with the household names, Play Fest must be commended for it’s support of local artists with a host of acts from in and around Norwich dotted throughout the lineup. As a local to the area myself I’ll be looking forward to the excellent singer-songwriter Kamilla Lovett playing in the Big Top on the Saturday and Norwich-based band Cielo on the Asylum Stage. YouTube-famed Ria Ritchie is also playing at the festival and one not to be missed. Killamonjambo, Dumbfoundus and the usual array of Norwich’s club nights are also all on hand to provide top notch entertainment across the festival’s many stages.

It’s an eclectic mix of big names, home-grown talent, live music and tantalizing back-to-back DJ sets. The festival organisers and the ticket holders will be hoping for a change in the weather to top off what looks to be an exciting new festival blossoming in Norfolk.
