If you hadn’t noticed amongst the rainfall, Wimbledon has been taking place this past week or so. Well Glasgow quartet We Are The Physics return with brand new single, ‘Goran Ivanisevic’. Celebrating that eccentric lanky Croat Goran Ivanisevic he of the missile serve, rattish beard, and perrenial underdog status when it came to hitting balls on the green stuff. Anyway against all the odds he eventual became the Winner of Wimbledon 2001, despite qualifying only as a wild card. Listen to this bleeping-shouty-art-rock track below it’s bloody marvelous! (Ed: Comeeee onnn Timmmm!!(I mean) Anndddyyyyyy!!!I mean Gorrannn!!)

Michael M explains: “We know zero about tennis, but Goran has always been one of our heroes just because of the sheer determination he had, having lost the title several times and the fact he claimed at every match he was playing against five different opponents, one of which was himself. And also the ball boys. After losing a title he said he was going to kill himself, then after beating Tim Henman he claimed he was genius. Just that furious drive and refusal to quit in the face of worldwide sneering, we’ve always thought was equally admirable and terrifying”.

The follow-up to debut ‘We Are The Physics Are OK At Music’ will be released later this year. It was recorded in Glasgow with Gang Of Four’s Thomas McNeice.
