Preaching from the Pews: JAWS

JAWS

JAWS are one of those bands that just seem to have everything required to be a hit. They’ve got a modestly cool ‘London’ teenage appeal akin to Bombay Bicycle Club, threaded into a sound that, whilst having apparent chill-wave and surf facets, is still very much accessible pop. They’re just so damn likeable.

But this doesn’t mean that the music they present is superficial or devoid of excellence, these guys are genuinely very good, I think. The scattering of material they have thus far released reminds me of the first (and let’s face it, probably best) Surfer Blood record, though perhaps slightly less guitar driven, and a touch more atmospheric.

They’re a 2012 band that have already found air time on Radio One, and mentions across a smorgasbord of other music publications. You could say it’s a little too late for us at GIITTV to be telling you about them and pretending we’re on the pulse with these things. This may be so, but it’s certainly time we wrote something about them, and if you’re yet to give them a listen, then maybe give the track below a whirl, it’s probably my personal favourite, just saying.
