Bummer Album of the Week: The Darkness – Hot Cakes

Hot Cakes

There are loads of bands from the past who were rubbish yet made it big and I won’t attempt to compile a list, for it would be rather long. Personal ‘top of the head’ examples are Level 42, The Divine Comedy and Vampire Weekend – all terrible! This week’s Bummer Album is a cheap shot I guess, for it’s The Darkness and their latest pile of shit is entitled ‘Hot Cakes’. Some discerning metal publications have lauded their debut album as an all-time classic, what a regretful decision that will become. This latest offering is the usual seventies throw back glam rock and includes a disgraceful version of Radiohead’s ‘Street Spirit’ plus a track called ‘Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now’ – anybody got a gun?
