PREVIEW: Aeroplane Flies High at Santiago Bar, Leeds, 7th July 2014

As a precursor to the first World Cup semi-final the following evening, why not head down to the Santiago Bar on Monday the 7th of July? Situated at the bottom corner of Leeds’ Grand Arcade in the city’s revitalised Northern Quarter, the self-proclaimed best damn rock ‘n’ roll bar in town is taken over for the night by Vintage Kickball and their third gig promotion. And it promises to be even hotter in there than the Hindenburg.

The headline slot has been bagged by those grunge-infused noise rockers Aeroplane Flies High. Despite taking their name from a Smashing Pumpkins box-set, the Merseyside trio’s sound owes far much more to that of Green River and Mudhoney. Expect to hear recent digital download singles ‘Growing’ and ‘Blossom’ and be prepared to have your ears completely shredded.

Strong support is provided by a triumvirate of local heroes. Another three-piece, STILTS trade in tales of psych, surf and sonic derring-do; Super Luxury are also well practised in the darker arts of resonance and reverberation; and nascent duo Spanish Wives who have only just taken wings and flight into this turbulent world of air pollution and pandemonium.

Tickets are £3 OTD at Santiago Bar, 1-3 Grand Arcade, Leeds, LS1 6PG on Monday 7th July 2014 from 7.30pm onwards.
