PREVIEW: Cambridge Folk Festival 2015

Line-up-graphicThe Cambridge Folk Festival is not one to rest on its already considerable laurels. Having last year celebrated its 50th anniversary, one of the longest running and most famous folk festivals in the world moves into its sixth decade of existence with news of yet another wonderfully exciting line-up.

It is an event that has moved with the times, increasing its musical reach to capture some of the very best talent in contemporary country, blues and roots music whilst still staying true to its more traditional folk base. This is once more reflected in the first names to be announced for this year’s festival.

Amongst this year’s headliners will be the legendary American folk singer and activist Joan Baez and the English folk-rock singer songwriter Passenger who topped the international charts in 2012 with his single ‘Let Her Go’. Amongst many celebrated others joining them in the beautiful surroundings of Cherry Hinton Hall in Cambridge in late July/early August will be the Hampshire folk-punk star and man of the people Frank Turner, the evergreen Joan Armatrading who first shot to fame in the ‘70s with ‘Love and Affection’, the Australian roots and jam band The John Butler Trio, the indestructible Wilko Johnson and one of the most powerful women in folk, Peggy Seeger who appeared at the very first Cambridge Folk Festival way back in 1965..

With many more acts still to be announced, 2015 promises to be yet another fantastic year in the long and firmly established history of the Cambridge Folk Festival.
