Track Of The Day #685: Choir of Young Believers – ‘Face Melting’

11194478_10152875411756033_1225127863657342072_oThe musical project of Copenhagen’s Jannis Noya Makrigiannis, Choir of Young Believers are perhaps most widely known for the song ‘Hollow Talk.’ Taken from the band’s debut album – 2008’s This Is for the White in Your Eyes – it featured over both the opening and closing credits of that quite marvellous Scandinavian crime drama television series The Bridge.

Charting similar territory to ‘Hollow Talk’, ‘Face Melting’ uses melancholia, gathering gloom and haunting beauty as its principal coordinates. Stretching out over a sonic landscape that goes beyond the seven-minute mark and as far as the eye can see, a spectral piano, ethereal vocals and gentle electronic intimations are your only guides.

‘Face Melting’ marks a most triumphant return for Makrigiannis and Choir of Young Believers after a three-year hiatus. It is released through Ghostly International just ahead of their forthcoming European tour with the promise of a third album to follow.
