Track Of The Day #707: Pesky! – Keep Me

Pesky-Header

The sun is shining so you must be ready for a slice of unabashed shimmer pop? Well get a load of ‘Keep Me’ by Pesky ! it’s an effervescent gem that’s tumbling percussion and fuzzy guitars hits you square between the eyes, rippling as it does with the starry eye’d melodic attack of Kenickie and Smoosh and the dream pop sensibilities of Lush!

Pesky! are seven kids from Ulverton, Cumbria In fact most of Pesky! are 12 years old. And the ones who aren’t 12 – namely guitarists Kate and Joseph – are even younger, being 11 and 10.

“Right Now I feel like exploding”, “your like a fire burning in my soul all the sparks are flying” they sing giddily with high pitched prepubescent gusto, an addictive melody that’s laced with the surprising wistfulness of young ladies who haven’t even reached the age yet where they have to worry about such things as boyfriends and broken hearts… ‘Keep Me’ is a pop song that packs a punch, played joyfully by youngsters, and possessing a wide eye’d innocence that’s free of any of the over thinking that weighs down so many currently popular guitar acts. Proof positive that the kids are alright! Fabulous!

Peski’s EP ‘Smells Like Tween Spirit’ comes out on Fierce Panda on July 24th.
