Track Of The Day #712; WAAX – I For An Eye

Brisbane Australia’s WAAX knock us off our feet with the stalking, tremulous vengeance of their frenetic and addictive new single ‘I for an Eye.’ Their stabbing punky rhythm section explodes and seethes, breaking for a breather with a singular drum beat before resuming the melee: the bile-filled howls of lead singer Marie De Vita burst forth once, again swearing revenge on those who have done her wrong. It brings to mind the frantic energy of Be Your Own Pet, the seething and intense suss of early Yeah Yeah Yeahs, or the angry yelps of Babes in Toyland. It all adds up to a fiercely addictive crashing shot of power punk that makes us eager to hear more!

WAAX emerging late-2014 with ‘Wisdom Teeth’.  With a debut EP due later this year and a second single to drop in the coming months, WAAX have a lot more to offer in 2015. Following this run of shows, they display their live prowess at BIGSOUND Live, Maroochy Festival and Red Deer Festival before an impending EP and tour towards the end of the year.
