Track Of The Day #751: Eskimeaux – Bigly, Small, Underheard

EskimeauxEskimeaux‘s ‘Bigly, Small and Underheard’ opens Paper Trail Records lovely recent fundraiser Thank You For Listening, a compilation for the mental health charity Console, with roughly 100 seconds of downbeat lo-fi pop.

The track length might be short, but it certainly isn’t short of hooks and ideas. Gabrielle Smith’s vocals sigh over the top of cycling guitar melodies and synth swells held together by modest electronic drumbeats to make a soundscape that dress up the dizzying schematics of early Mew in the clothing of People Press Play.

It is a track that will burrow into your head and make you want to play it again and again, and not only because it’s nearly over before it starts.
