Track Of the Day #756: False-Heads – Steal And Cheat

False-HeadsBeing signed to 25 Hour Convenience Store, Gary Powell of The Libertine’s label, has clearly left a mark on False-Heads. Whereas before the young London trio aped off Nevermind, here the boys comfortably sound fresh off the same Camden streets that The Libertines raucous indie rock antics took place.

This is not to say False-Heads are a bad band. Far from it. Their boisterousness and earnestness comes off in spades, and while they’re open about the influences, it’s in bloody good taste. The song charges through, the ‘power-drumming complementing the energetic distorted guitars that clearly echoes the band’s determination to stick to their alternative fuzzed-out aesthetic. Meanwhile, Luke Griffith’s dreary and pronounced vocals talk about class consciousness while directly referencing The Clash’s ‘Bankrobber’.

As long as they keep cracking out tunes like this, these boys are going to be a very busy bunch.
