Track Of The Day #766: CTM – Return Of The Hunters

CTM PHOTO (Cred. Albert Grøndahl)At a time of the year when everything is ridiculous “because it’s Christmas”, take a moment to enjoy the sublime instrumental ‘Return Of The Hunters’ from Cæcilie Trier in her CTM guise.  It begins with a handful of notes and chords evoking tropical climes and the lofty flutterings of a harp before giving way to a slightly darker edge with another handful of notes and chords bolstered by the gradual addition of piano melodies – further suggesting something dark and perhaps even a little dangerous – and bowed strings, followed by the sounds of a gong and a gentle, calming slosh of water.  The percussion is brief, but it adds another element of surprise and another twist in this frankly gorgeous swell of sounds, growing in depth and intensity, ending on 15 seconds of that calm slosh of water.

One thing’s for sure, ‘Return Of The Hunters’ will leave you guessing and will surprise you at every turn.  It goes from those sparse beginnings to a multi-faceted something else within its two-minute and 25-second duration.  ‘Return Of The Hunters’ is the opening track to CTM’s mini album Suite For A Young Girl, released 22nd January on Tambourhinoceros.
