Track Of The Day #769: Still Corners – Horses at Night

stillcornersAnglo-American duo Still Corners return with ‘Horses at Night’ a deliciously dreamy-eyed slice of bedroom pop. Written by the sea in England, its undulating beats are garnished by twinkling samples and anguished guitar licks provided by songwriter/producer Greg Hughes, ‘Horses…’ exists in the space between the gaze pop majesty of M83 and the hauntings of Broadcast, soundtracking the moments before you close your eyes to sleep. Each bar haunted by Tessa Murray’s pleading yet alluring tired-eyed vocals, her repeated refrain ‘I want you to stop breaking my heart’ sounds like a whispered command to a twisted up love affair.

“Since the band’s formation in 2008, Still Corners’ darkly romantic and alluring compositions have drawn inspiration from film-noirs and atmospheric scores that bleed into the duo’s live performances in addition to their recorded output.”

Still Corners will return with their brooding brand of bedroom-eyed pop on their third full-length album, due for release in 2016.
