Track Of The Day #793: The Prettiots – Move To LA

‘Move To LA’ is the new single taken from The Prettiots’ debut album Funs Cool. The duo from New York make a brand of off-kilter pop music that takes the Vivian Girls’ love of classic sugar-coated pop but updates it with a more modern realism and tongue-in-cheek forwardness.

Kay Kasperhauser laments during this forlorn track that everything in life will be better if she and her love run away to the sunny climes of LA, but concedes in the end as the tempo is quickened that she can’t outrun herself.  ‘Move To LA’ is a slice of brilliant, simple young-adult angst that uses humour as a defence mechanism.  It’s also not often that a band manages to release a song in the month that it’s referenced as being in the track’s lyrics; so well done to them for making it relevant, too.
