Track Of The Day #801: Peaness – Fortune Favours The Bold

Peaness are an all-female trio from Chester, and from their name alone one suspects they are quite mischievous because whilst their music might sound sweet at times it’s laced with attitude and cunning that we don’t clap ears on often from guitar bands at GIITTV towers of late.

Lifted from their ‘No Fun’ EP from last summer, ‘Fortune Favours The Bold’ is a female fronted, kick-ass garage pop tune spiked with the bittersweet indecision of both the disappointment of heartbreak, despondency, and the unfairness of society.  “Forever earning pennies will the rich sod the many/It ain’t right,” they sing infectiously, with a glint in their eye and a knot in their guts: that it’s all wrapped up in a fast-paced flurry of shiny riffs and frenetic beat makes it even more effective.  Like a hammer fist in a velvet glove, it’s like the meeting point between Kenickie and Lush and all the better for it!  One in the eye for Gideon and a charming introduction to a band with bucket-loads of potential!
