Track Of The Day #821: Girl Sweat – Human Glue

Arriving in Leeds by way of Stockton-On-Tees, Girl Sweat likes to ride tall in the saddle.  Standing some 77 inches high in his bare feet, and with a shock of hair last seen alive on Tiny Tim‘s head, he is the man who has made the moustache in modern music something that is suddenly very cool indeed.

And how he achieves such an unlikely feat is by battering us all into helpless submission with a blitzkrieg of sound that predicts the end of the world will be found somewhere between Detroit and Darlington.  And if this assertion should be open to any doubt whatsoever just check out ‘Human Glue’.

Taken from his forthcoming debut album Bad Happenings, it captures the big man with the big sound at his full screaming tilt best.  Sounding like the bastard son of Mark E. Smith stuck half-way down a disused mineshaft, Girl Sweat screams out the song’s toxic mantra over a cauldron of throbbing bass, swirling synth and slide guitars.  One day all music will sound as good as this.

Bad Happenings will be released through the Newcastle based label Box Records on 6th May 2016.
