NEWS: Air, Lanterns on the Lake and many more join bluedot festival

Dates:  22nd – 24th July 2016

Location:  Jodrell Bank, Cheshire

It was clear from the start that bluedot was a serious contender. The latest round of names confirms their stellar ambitions of bringing together visual arts, music and science in a series of unique collaborations and special performances.

Inspired by the plight of the honeybee, Be play One is a unique, mesmerising live collaboration between an artist, a scientist, half of Spiritualized and 40,000 real life bees. A brand new artwork, especially designed for Jodrell Bank by the iconic Brian Eno, will be displayed across the magnificent Lovell Telescope through the festival; and Newcastle’s Lanterns On The Lake will play material from their critically acclaimed albums accompanied by the world renowned Royal Northern Sinfonia.

On Saturday, supporting Jean-Michel Jarre, French electronica/space rock pioneers Air will take to the main stage. The Cosmic Culture programme on the Contact Stage will host an impressive bill of science and space-related authors and presenters, including a multi-award winning sci-fi celebrity Alan Garner and writer Andrew Smith, who will be talking about his experience of tracking down every astronaut who walked on moon between 1969 and 1972. The special science-flavoured comedy bill includes Helen Keen and her It Is Rocket Science stand-up show, Helen Arney & Steve Mould from Festival of the Spoken Nerd and Dr. Steve Cross’ clever chaotic cabaret Science Showoff.

Appearing at the Science Garden, Urban Astronaut is a bold new direction in physical theatre providing a glimpse of a future that might be… where problems surrounding air pollution have grown to a crisis point, is there any way back?
