NEWS: Iceland Airwaves adds more acts and announces the second edition of Nonference

Dates: 2nd – 6th November 2016
Location: Reykjavik, Iceland

This year’s Iceland Airwaves already boasts an impressive line up featuring PJ Harvey, Julia Holter, Warpaint and múm playing with the Kronos Quartet.  It’s now been announced that a menagerie of upcoming international acts spanning across the genres will also feature on the bill.  Shreveport blues-rockers Seratones, Danish alt poppers Lowly and rising electronic producer Conner Youngblood have all been added to the line up.  Cult Brooklyn hip hop collective Digable Planets are all set to perform at the festival.

It’s also been revealed that alongside these established and upcoming international acts, 2016 will have a strong focus on the burgeoning hip hop scene of Reykjavik.  The wealth of homegrown urban acts include Glacier Mafia and Kött Grá Pje, as well as the all-female rap collective Reykjavíkudætur.  Brand new acts on the scene, such as Aron Can, feature on the bill alongside other local acts like electronica outfit Gangly and singer-songwriter Júníus Meyvant.

In addition, the festival will be hosting Nonference, an informal music conference, in Harpa during the day.  This year’s event will feature talks about the current renaissance in Icelandic rap, masterclasses on a variety of industry topics and more.  Hosted by IMX, the Nonference is open to anyone with a wristband.
