NEWS: Cassette Store Day returns for its fourth year

On 8th October, Cassette Store Day will see shops and organisations across the world celebrating the tape for the fourth year running.  The event was originally founded by UK indie labels Suplex Cassettes, Kissability and Sexbeat in 2013 alongside Americans Burger Records.

Jen Long, co-founder of Kissability, said: “For a supposedly dying format there’s still so much love and life for those little bits of plastic.  I know come October there’ll be another special release list and days of celebration planned around the world.  Vive le cassette! as our partners in France might say.”

Meanwhile, Burger Records added: “When we completed Cassette Store Day 2015 we went back to the drawing board.  We said ‘We can rebuild it.  We have the technology.  We have the capability to make the world’s best Cassette Store Day.  2016 will be that year.  Better than it was before.  Better…  stronger…  faster.’

This year, they’re joined by Germans Mansions and Millions/ Spati Palace, France’s Balades Sonores and Japan’s VSI.  However, the day also encourages stores and events to apply to be part of the official celebrations.  Applications to be a part of Cassette Store Day are now open.  It is free to list a store or event, with a small administration fee of £5 for record labels looking to list a release.

You can sign up to be part of the event on the official Cassette Store Day website. The deadline for applications is 26th August.
