As drummer for Alt-J, Thom Sonny Green is not unused to making intelligent, sometimes slightly abstract music. However, on his debut solo album High Anxiety, due for release on 19th August via his own label Sudden Records, Green intends to reveal his love for cerebral, experimental electronica. Spanning an epic 21 tracks, the album was recorded across two years while on the road, with many of the song titles referencing places and landscapes.
Coinciding with the announcement, Green has shared the opening track of the LP, ‘Vienna.’ The piece contains some gorgeous synth soundscapes and almost trip-hop beats. While it begins as an airy, almost ambient track, its climax morphs into a dark and dramatic sonic experience evoking Boards of Canada. Listen below.
Green will be performing at Latitude Festival in Suffolk, which takes place between 14th-17th July.
