NEWS: Courtney Barnett unveils video for ‘Elevator Operator’

It’s been just over a year since scuzzy Australian singer-songwriter Courtney Barnett released her acclaimed debut album Sometimes I Sit and Think, Sometimes I Just Sit.  In that time she’s been nominated for BRIT and Grammy Awards and been hailed as a distinctive, idiosyncratic voice in music.  Now the LP’s opening track, ‘Elevator Operator,’ finally has an accompanying video clip.

Directed by Sunny Leunig, the son of cartoonist Michael Leunig, the video stars Barnett as a harassed elevator girl who encounters a slew of surreal characters.  It’s a stylish, witty clip that features a number of cameos.  Sleater-Kinney, Magda Szubanski from Kath & Kim, Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy and The Drones are just some of the people who show up in the video.  Watch below.

Barnett plays two gigs in the UK next week.  On 13th July she’s at Somerset House in London, while on the 15th she head to Latitude Festival.
