Thom Sonny Green revealed earlier this month that he’d be releasing his debut solo album High Anxiety on 19th August via his own label Sudden Records. As drummer for Alt-J, he is not unused to making intelligent, sometimes slightly abstract music but with High Anxiety, Green intends to reveal his love for cerebral, experimental electronica. Spanning an epic 21 tracks, the album was recorded across two years while on the road, with many of the song titles referencing places and landscapes.
Ahead of the release, Green has shared a brand new track, ‘Phoenix.’ Far away from the tricky beats of Alt-J, it’s a song that’s bathed in ambient, cerebral synths and washed in waves of atmosphere. Veering between lighter tones and occasionally thundering bass drones, it sits pretty firmly on the more experimental end of the electronic spectrum. Listen below.
