Track Of The Day #937: Hatecrimes – Trapeze Of Happiness

Hatecrimes is an enigmatic solo artist whose agreeable fuzz-folk sits comfortably somewhere between Beck, Kurt Vile, and Sparklehorse. The lazy drawl of his enunciation is a joy to behold, as evidenced on his splendid debut single, ‘Trapeze Of Happiness‘, which has just been released on the highly respected indie imprint DPRK Records.

I’ve just risen from the dead/It’s time to rebuild my confidence,” he half sings, half speaks after a passage that evokes fond memories of Lou Reed‘s ‘Walk On The Wild Side‘ and the positive summer vibes reverberate delightfully through heart and soul alike.

Hatecrimes describes himself as “a critical over-thinker, a dreamer as much as he is a worrier.” Well, he needn’t worry too much, if all his songs are up to this standard!
