PREVIEW: Mirrors Festival 2016

PREVIEW: Mirrors Festival 2016

When: 29th October 2016
Where: Various locations, Hackney, London.

Mirrors Festival returns to Hackney today after its successful debut in 2015. The event is set to take place at a range of venues across the borough, including a welcome return to both Oslo and St. John at Hackney. This year the festival has taken a step up and added a raft of new stages to the schedule, including Moth Club, Paper Dress Vintage, Hackney Picturehouse, and Hackney Empire’s Stage 3.

Multi-instrumentalist and artistic powerhouse Bat For Lashes headlines this year’s event, bringing her The Bride tour to the church stage at St. John at Hackney. Shows in support of her Mercury Prize nominated record have received praise for their immersive, theatrical artistry, suggesting festival goers have a unique headline performance in store for them.  In addition to her set, festival organisers have announced a UK premiere screening of Bat For Lashes’ alias Natasha Khan’s directorial debut. All attendees who have purchased Mirrors tickets prior to 21st October are in with a chance to win seats at the screening.

Joining Bat For Lashes on the Mirrors line-up are Canadian hardcore punks Fucked Up, fuzz rockers Cherry Glazerr, and surf rock outfit Allah-Las. Elsewhere on the bill Babeheaven, Martha, The Parrots, and noughties indie darling turned solo artist Bill Ryder-Jones round out the festival’s genre balance. Mirrors Festival’s inaugural appearance last year was noted for scheduling major draw-cards alongside lesser known and under-represented acts. With sets beginning mid-afternoon attendees would probably be wise to arrive early to catch smaller, up and coming bands and make the most of the day’s variety.
