Video Of The Week #14: John Southworth – Champion Of Love [PREMIERE]

Champion of love? In all honesty, I’m more like the chump of Love, I’ve always been last place in love, never mind eh? UK-born, Canadian-raised Singer-songwriter John Southworth‘s new single ‘Champion of Love’ is a meticulously produced understated slice of lounge pop. With stabbing strings, fluid production and laced with Southworth’s languid yet heartfelt poetic couplets. It’s a lovelorn orchestral pop song with enough spaciousness that sits effortlessly somewhere between early Badly Drawn Boy and the longing of Villagers with maybe a side-order of the ambition of Divine Comedy. It’s lifted from his new album ‘Small Town Water Tower’ (his 10th full-length, produced by Derek Hoffman).  We have the video premiere above.Featuring Horses, men in top hats and John pulling shapes, what more could you want?

Southworth’s first children’s book Daydreams for Night was published last year in Japan; a former film student, he makes his own videos as well as for others.
