Track Of The Day#1013 : Lana Del Rey featuring The Weeknd – Lust For Life

First things first. This is not a cover version of the Iggy Pop song that famously soundtracks the opening moments of Trainspotting. What this is, though, is the title track of her forthcoming fourth album, due later on this year.

Following on from the release of the track ‘Love‘ back in February – also another Track Of The Day here on God Is In The TV – this track, which features the vocal talents of The Weeknd, is a sublime piece of work. She has featured on his two most recent albums – and now he returns the favour. Not for the first time, Lana Del Rey has produced a song which is life-affirming and heartbreaking at the same time. ‘A lust for life keeps us alive,’ they both implore us.

Whether there is an examination of youth and death on Lust For Life remains to be seen. There are similar lyrical ideas here to the single’s predecessor – where that reminded listeners that they were ‘young… and alive,’ this one ponders ‘They say: ‘only the good die young… Well, that just ain’t right.’
