Video Of The Week #52: Symbion Project – Bloodthirsty

Symbion Project, led by electronic composer/producer Kasson Crooker, release the beguiling single ‘Bloodthirsty’ this week. Preceded by two music videos – one being an immersive 360 video and one in 2D.

An intriguing and mysterious slice of downtempo futuristic chamber-pop filled with charged atmospherics, this track features haunting vocals from Finnish singer/songwriter Markus Junnikkala. Tense orchestration, sinister synths and a deft balance of clever minimalism and dark intensity. The video features choreography and performance by Sorea Lear and Anna Thornton, which was produced and directed by Avielle Heath and Micah Knapp. The song “tells the story of how love, lust and emotional energy can both heal and tear relationships apart. The video represents a struggle and how energy between two people can be abused and manipulated.”

Based in Seattle, Symbion Project are the sound of a brooding embrace between neo-classical elegance that hints at the influence of Steve Reich mingles, electronic textures and vocals that remind one of Antony and the Johnsons or Son Lux.
