Video Of The Week #69: The Altered Hours – On My Tongue

The Altered Hours just released their urgent new EP ‘On My Tongue’ on Art For Blind/Penske Recordings, we have the premiere for the excellent video for the title track above. Scratchy, gritty, trashy and bruised by reverb, in its own way, this is redolent of the visceral urgency of Iggy & The Stooges colliding all arms and legs with the fuzzy rushing racket of early Sonic Youth, but its also not at all. These serrated edged riffs, thudding baselines, tangled boy/girl melodies, this is the muffled racket from the party next door. It’s the brief rush from the night before that you regret in the morning. The video is no less impressive, a blue screen, daubed in pop art imagery and DIY instructions:

To celebrate the release of the new EP, the band start a European tour today, including a headline show at The Shacklewell Arms in London on 13 March.
