Dexy releases his wistful festive single ‘Xmas Lights’ today, its available digitally through 3 Minute Records – available on iTunes, Spotify, Bandcamp and Google Play (see links below).
Today, we premiere the accompanying black and white video which was directed, produced and edited by Shaun Grimsley. It was filmed on the streets of Whitechapel and Waterloo/Southbank in London. Dexy says:
“The song came about because, while so much of Christmas celebrates the idea of excess and being surrounded by people, I’ve always been naturally drawn to the sadder Christmas songs and imagery. I also love this season for its starkness and how beautiful otherwise mundane places can look in the snow or mist and the hope was that we could capture these feelings in both the song and the video.
The video was directed, produced and edited by Shaun Grimsley. Shaun came to me with an idea for a video that I absolutely loved straight away – he basically had me at the first mention of spending the day with a dog!
We were lucky enough that our friends Ross & Louise allowed us to film with Missy, their beautiful six year old Chorkie. Spending the day messing around with her in different areas of East London definitely ranks up there with my highlights of the year!”
Recorded and produced by Adrian Hall (Anna Calvi, Ray Davies, Robyn) who also produced Dexy’s debut album Tear It Down (2017) and they are currently recording the follow-up, out in Spring/Summer 2019.
