PREVIEW: Visions 2019

PREVIEW: Visions 2019

Visions Festival has been making its mark over the years as the best place to see up and coming new bands of all genres and varieties, whilst enjoying the best of London’s grassroots venues. And the 2019 festival is no different. With an electic line up, there’s plenty to challenge your expectations, fall in love with, and discover for the first time. See who we’ll be heading to on Saturday 3 August in our top artists to look out for…

Talk Show

Nu rave meets math rock? An intelligent pop outfit? Talk Show make pulsating tunes that flicker along with brilliance. They describe their music as reflecting a childhood of Radiohead and trip-hop. It’s exciting and energising enough to attract them to Felix White of The Maccabees’, and they recently signed to his new Yala! Records venture. Ferocious and infectious.

Orville Peck

Masked enigmatic country singer Orville Peck croons queer love stories about hustlers travelling through the South American desert. Interesting hey? The reason he’s gone for a cowboy aesthetic? ‘I’m just a cowboy so I don’t know any other way.’ Sounds reason enough to us.

Maria Somerville

Folk melodies, Irish stories, hypnotic beats and rhythmic motifs all combine in Maria Somerville’s tunes. A melodic and melancholic ambience is the vibe, with songs that bristle and shimmer with atmosphere. The songs are brooding and lingering, and heavily influenced by her upbringing in Galway. Perhaps staring out into the endless Atlantic does something to you.

Westerman

Imagine if the nineties had never happpend. Westerman make chilled and melodic pop ballads that shimmer with stripped back instrumentation under delicately sprinkled synths. He combines folksy storytelling with heartfelt lyrics and emotional electonica, all from his bedroom in West London.

Shygirl

With echoes of Azealia Banks and Kelis, Shygirl write fast based R’n’B that bristles with speedy lyrics and bounding beats. It’s a culmination of all the club sounds you’ve ever heard. No wonder Rhianna has given her approval.
