Preaching From The Pews: Cruel World

Preaching From The Pews: Cruel World

Hello Cruel World. The Leeds quintet first appeared early last year but have just announced details of their debut EP. Since coming into being some 18 months ago, Cruel World have carved out a strong reputation for themselves, one that has been reflected by live support slots with the American new-country musician Karl Blau (and as Blau’s backing band), Lucy Dacus, Blitzen Trapper and Mothers as well as a full UK tour opening for their fellow Leodians, Menace Beach. Appearances at Live at Leeds and Wakefield’s Long Division festival earlier this year have enhanced this reputation.

Now they are about to release a five track EP later this month. Talking about this self-titled record, the band’s James Smith says The songs on this EP aren’t anchored to a moment; it’s nice to put them out knowing that as long as the internet exists, they’re there and able to be discovered by others. Maybe not now…but at some point, down the line. New music 1000 years too late.”

To herald the new record, Cruel World have today shared its first single, ‘Take The Reins’. A deeply affecting, lambent introduction to their debut EP, the song is one that takes a stately stroll into the inner paths of our consciousness. Listen for yourself here:
