PREVIEW: Rockaway Beach Festival 2020

PREVIEW: Rockaway Beach Festival 2020

When: 10 – 12 January 2020
Where: Butlin’s, Bognor Regis, UK

Happy New Year! And it promises to be precisely that if 2020’s Rockaway Beach Festival is anything to go by. In just over a week’s time this boutique indoor music festival will return for the fifth time to its regular home at the Butlin’s holiday resort at Bognor Regis on the south-east coast of England.

And the often over-inflated term “bigger and better” is most definitely not some idle boast when used to describe what is in store for punters on this the second weekend of the New Year. Headlining the event will be no less than John Cale, the legendary founding member of The Velvet Underground; East Kilbride’s finest, The Jesus and Mary Chain; and in what is their first ever festival headline show, those incendiary Irish punks, Fontaines D.C.

A very strong undercard features amongst many others besides the wonderful and varied talents of experimental popsters Self Esteem; supremely super cool Irish singer and songwriter SOAK; the indefatigable indie-rock icons The Wedding Present; Peter Perrett (former frontman of The Only Ones); and the truly exciting London-based sextet Black Country, New Road.

The music line-up comprises nearly 30 of “the best emerging, breakthrough and established alternative artists” that are around today, performing across the course of the weekend on the festival’s two main stages. In addition to all of this live music Rockaway Beach also offers it’s paying guests three nights hotel or apartment accommodation, Q&As with John Cale, Fontaines D.C. and Peter Perrett, film screenings – including Talking Head’s 1984 concert film Stop Making Sense and the PJ Harvey documentary A Dog Called Money – record signings, pub quizzes, DJ sets, late night parties, album playbacks and meet-ups.

There is also ample opportunity for you to take advantage of more traditional holiday camp fun including access to Butlin’s brand new family pool, ten pin bowling, arcade games, darts and pool.

But if you haven’t already got your tickets for Rockaway Beach 2020, you had better be quick as there are now less than 50 rooms left available for the event.
