Islet return with their powerfully adventurous new single ‘Geese‘ hypnotic and elliptical it beguiles over its near seven minutes.
A glorious mini symphony riven with intricate details, the throbbing beat, washed out synth textures and nagging comedown keyboard motifs interspersed with the freedom of Emma Daman Thomas’s almost spiritual skyward refrains “flys fly fly” she beckons skyward a call to the landscape and the wild and to past generations who once stood where we stand now.
Layered vocals, live drums and swirls gathering like rushing clouds towards a heady four to the floor crescendo, carving a vast space in the time space continuum in the process the way the work William Orbit or The Orb can. Its Islet forging a new path on their story and it sounds quite like nothing else. intriguing and bewitching.
Inspired by Welsh cultural theorist Raymond Williams’ novel People Of The Black Mountains, Emma explains “I look at these hills and mountains and I think about how I am not the first. I think of the many thousands of generations that have looked at them, and how they are not one continuous people or race but many, in constant flux.”
Powys trio whose free-spirited invention and exuberant intensity flows through experimental pop, return with new album Eyelet is follow-up to 2016’s Liquid Half Moon EP, and released on the 6th March 2020 through Fire Records.
Eyelet was recorded at home tucked away in the hills of rural Mid Wales. It took form the months following the birth of band members Emma and Mark Daman Thomas’ second child and the death of fellow band member Alex Williams’ mother. Alex came to live with Emma and Mark, and the band enlisted Rob Jones (Pictish Trail, Charles Watson) to produce.
