INTRODUCING: STACEY

INTRODUCING: STACEY

Living life inside a vintage dream, STACEY is keeping sixties vintage glamour alive.  With retro aesthetics and a dreamlike, indie-pop sound that mixes into a beautiful combination that sets her apart from so many modern artists.  I wanted to find out more about this alluring artist, so I’ve asked her a handful of questions about her new release ‘Far Away‘.

Hi, how are you today?

I’m good, all things considered! I alternate between sweatpants and full hair/makeup/outfit days and today is the latter. I’m fine with either.

Tell me about your new song, “Far Away”.

It’s my first single in almost 3 years. I wrote it at a time when I felt the sky was falling (if I only knew). I wanted to paint up a dream world for the listener to escape from the pains of the world.

Can you explain the concept behind your music video and what inspired it?

I’m really into the 1960s fashion, art, film, music! I wanted it to feel like Nancy Sinatra’s cousin you didn’t know about goes for a hot air balloon adventure. The chimes in the intro of the song always put the imagery of hot air balloons in my mind.

What was your experience in putting the music video together?

It’s a lot of work but I had an incredible team that really helped make the vision come to life.

What was the first song you ever wrote?

I don’t think it had a title! But when I was around 11 years old I tried to make a music video for it in the backyard with the family camcorder.

What was it like?

It was about trees and waterfalls and being sad (not sure why!). The lyrics were bad and I accidentally taped over my own baby footage.

What’s your local music scene like?

I’ve been in LA for the last little while and I really love it. I feel embraced, accepted, and inspired by the music community here. I’m constantly learning about new/old music from the friends I’ve met. Also collaborating a lot. It’s so special.

How would you describe your music in five words?

Nostalgic. Contemplative. Psychedelic. Romantic. Healing.

Which artists do you admire?

So many! Current: Weyes Blood, Lana Del Rey, Tame Impala, Tobias Jesso Jr. Past: Carole King, Laura Nyro, The Zombies, The Beatles, Beach Boys…. I could go on forever.

What would be your dream collaboration?

Kevin Parker / Tame Impala.

What’s the best band you have played with so far?

Before Charlotte Day Wilson started releasing music she went by Day Wilson for a few shows in the Toronto music community. We shared a bill once around that time and I knew that night that she was a really special artist. It’s been awesome to watch her career skyrocket.

Who/What are you listening to right now?

I mostly listen to my favourite radio station in LA – 1260AM KSURF’s LA Oldies. I have Weyes Blood’s ‘Titanic Rising’ and LDR’s ‘Norman Fucking Rockwell’ on heavy rotation pretty much all the time. A friend recently invited me into a Stones vs. Beatles debate so I’m diving into the corners of those catalogues as well. And Blossom Dearie, always. Oh and Jaunt from Toronto!! And I recently discovered Nick Leng; I like his new album ‘Lemons.’

Thanks for your time

Thank you!!
