Video of the Week #165: Emma Swift – You’re A Big Girl Now

Inspired by the celebrated American graphic designer and creator of the I ❤️ NY logo, Milton Glaser – who died in June of this year at the age of 91 –  this animated video, made by art director, Yvonne Moxham and animator Alex Dar, with additional graphic design from James Bellesini, is both a delightful homage to 1960s and 1970s design as well as a most fitting tribute to the same period Bob Dylan whose song ‘You’re A Big Girl Now’ is covered here by the Australian singer-songwriter Emma Swift.

Reflecting upon her love of Milton Glaser’s work, Emma Swift says “His bold and fabulous designs have inspired so many, and his iconic 1967 Dylan poster is a favorite of mine. As artists, no matter what field we’re working in, we’re always in search of what Glaser famously coined the “wow” factor.” Immersed in vibrant colours and embracing those familiar Glaser characteristics of playfulness and wit, this video captures perfectly that powerful feeling of exhilaration without ever losing sight of the emotional devastation that lies at the very heart of this song.

‘You’re A Big Girl Now’ is the third single to be taken from Emma Swift’s critically acclaimed Blonde on the Tracks album on which she reimagines eight Bob Dylan songs.
