Lili Trifilio has been known until now as the front person behind Beach Bunny who released their ace power pop album Honeymoon earlier this year, it was a sleeper hit of 2020. Now she steps out into her own light with the first offering from her new solo project tiger lili. Which is an ongoing project that will span genres, bucking sonic conformity in favour of an outlet for the breadth of Lili’s influences.
Lili says of the project, “As a fan of many genres, I want to have the freedom to explore songwriting in all forms. I cannot predict what stylistic choices I will make in the future, but I am certain that whatever I release, that I will only put my best work forward. Art is limitless and I choose to write without limitations.”
The first single, ‘lightning,’ possessed of Lili’s striking vocals, consumed by a love she can’t leave behind, shift from pretty heartbroken melodies underscored by a darkness and regret, to rasping cry and spoken word of poetic introspection, it’s an awesome and vast hazy opus, woven with alternating layers of guitars and strings that surfs the shifting moods of a storm. Written during a week of thunderstorms at 4am in late April out via Mom+Pop Music. It also marks the first song that Lili has produced entirely on her own. The track is paired with a black and white video shot on the streets and woods of Chicago directed by everybody’s baby.
