Video of The Week #169: Random Recipe – Hey Boy

Today, Montreal-based hip hop outfit Random Recipe debut their new video clip for single ‘Hey Boy‘ featuring feat. Sunny Moonshine. The video was directed by Montreal ‘Artful Vandal’ MissMe, an activist, feminist, and one of the most recognized outlaw artists in North America.

Watch the video below it features a community of women visually representing the universality of the feminine experience. The song is the hardest-hitting track on recently released album Distractions, subtle production and beats ooze with fierce bars that take down the patriarchy brick by brick, and sweet soul refrains that together stand with self empowered feminist pride.

Random Recipe have performed at The Montreal International Jazz Festival, Festival d’été Quebec, and toured across The United States, Europe, and Latin America.

Between Random Recipe and MissMe, it was (professional) love at first sight. The Montreal-based visual artist and feminist activist fell for the band two years ago in Bologna, Italy, where Frannie and Fab were performing at a feminist art centre. After hitting it off, the three women promised to work together, knowing full well that their respective art forms would complement each other.

This collaboration came about when Random Recipe asked MissMe to direct the music video for the song “Hey Boy (feat. Sunny Moonshine)”; a number that stands as both the most delicate (musically speaking) and the most biting (lyrically speaking) tune on their 2018 album ‘Distraction‘.

Set in a simple, soft and refined universe, the video echoes this duality, thanks to MissMe’s artistic direction.
