NEWS: Tugboat Captain unveil joyous new video ‘Everything About You’

Tugboat Captain return with ‘Everything About You’ – the final single to be lifted from their forthcoming debut studio album, Rut, out October 16th via Double A-Side Records. Watch the video which we are debuting below, pieced together from their live tours and some judicious use of Zoom. It shows off Tugboat Captain’s unique stage rapport, all dancing and generally having a good time.

Having teased their new baroque-pop approach on previous singles ‘No Plans (For This Year)’ and ‘Day To Day’, with a touch of Divine Comedy the joyous ‘Everything About You’ finds the band in their impish energetic element displaying the often chaotic live sound that has become the trademark for a band renowned for their relentless DIY touring.

The song focuses on frontman and protagonist Alexander Sokolow desperately trying not to be the downer at a party and doing his best to divert attention away from himself. He says:

“’Everything About You’ is a song about feeling uncomfortable at parties and wanting someone else to do the talking.  I think it’s the closest we’ve ever come to capturing our live sound in the studio – especially combined with the video which uses a lot of footage from our 2019 Be Strong Tour. Together it feels like a nice reminder of the band that we were pre-Covid, combining the downright glum and melancholy and matching it with fun, colourful, jangly pop music.”

With droll gang vocals and scrappy horns battling to hold fast, producer David Dargahi (The Postelles) has perhaps come closest to capturing Tugboat Captain’s rowdy energy as a live band on tape.

Tugboat Captain are a four-piece crew of friends and family who have spent the last few years recording, rehearsing and releasing music out of a terraced house in South London. The band have been gathering attention across the DIY Pop community through their relentless touring, homemade videos and bittersweet pop songs. The band have garnered a reputation for their riotous live shows – frequently combining bassoons and nudity.”
