MY FIRST RADIO- PROGRESS

Kettering and Corby based four piece My First Radio release "Progress" as free download on the GIITTV singles club. The track comes as a precursor to a full physical single released on Series 8 records later in the year.Bside "My Secret Plan" is now avaliable to all.

In a live setting My First Radio combine the fragile atmospherics of Engineers, Mogwai and Redjetson with the mashed up effects pedal punk of Bloc Party and add the vocal kick in the nuts of Six By Seven and latter day Primal Scream. You could call it shoegazing with size twelves.

In this context "Progress" is somewhat disarming, catching you totally off guard with its wistful, emotionally charged vocals which ache over a gentle piano motif eventually rising to a searing vocoder soaked ephiphany. The bside "My Secret Plan" combines knowing vocal interplay with spiralling shoegaze fuzz that smacks you about the face and lets you know who’s in charge here...

"...fast moving indie band." - The Guardian

"[My First Radio] launch you skywards on a rocket co piloted by Muse and Slowdive and fuelled by lashings of spiralling guitars... spacey, shoe gaze majesty..." - hearthefuture.org.uk

Ross, you didn't tell me this features strings tickled by your good friend Claire, and Mike Siddel of Hope of the States, Troubles and Lightspeed Champion fame.
That would have been a good angle actually haha

It looks like Mac users are having trouble downloading and playing the tracks because they're in WMA format with an MP3 tag, or something like that.
I'm sure the powers that be will have it sorted soon, so if you're having trouble, please be patient.
Cheers.

Just as a bit of a footnote, the artwork that accompanies Progress is by a chap called Sam Horsley at Twisted Little Dreams.
You can see more examples of his work here: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=9632564073

Anyone know any German this from a blog:
Hier ein schneller Tipp - das britische Quartett My First Radio, das in seiner Musik moderne Klänge ŕ la Bloc Party mit epischen Gitarren der Marke Mogwai oder den Engineers mischt, hat diese Woche ihre neue Single «Progress» beim God Is The TV Singles Club als kostenlose Download-Single veröffentlicht. Das ist doch nett!

I assume its just a bit of news and the links to the songs, oh well its all good:D

Again I have to apologise for messing up the orginal download for this, don't know how I managed it. I'm technically all fingers and thumbs...

The bside is being sent out today so get all signed up. I'll send it out a few more times then get it up quick smart really...

Rough translation, since I haven't done any German since around 1993:

"Here's a quick tip: British quartet My First Radio, mixing modern sounds like Bloc Party with grand/epic(?) guitars like Mogwai and Engineers, this week release their new single "Progress" published through GIITTV's Singles Club, available to download free. It's very nice."

Very nice?
Better than "it's shit" I suppose.

Progress is nearing a thousand already. Out of interest mate how many press cds did you send out in the end?
Posted: 23/6/08 at 15:53
Sharp_Kid

1000 already?
Cool!

I only managed to churn out about 30.
Still got about another 30 jiffy bags labelled and with press release style inserts waiting for me to put a CD in, and another maybe 20 labels sitting there with no jiffy bag for them to go on.
It's a time consuming job.

Aye I know mate, just wondered that's all coz we'd had no actual cd reveiws yet...Don't worry though should be ok, will probably drip through, I'll do another mass mailround tomorrow...

Everyday I download loads of new mp3s and it is hard to keep everything on track. “My Secret Plan” was hiding in my collection for a little while but now I can not seem to stop giving it a spin. The starts off a little slow and you think you might be greeted with some sort of shoegazing track and then slowly the song starts to add bits. The vocals are reminiscent of some of post punks finest combined with the shoegazy base you get a really compelling tune that will simply suck you in for three minutes. “My Secret Plan” is actually the bside of their recent single “Progress” and if the bsides are this good. This band is going to be scary.

They've asked us to do a little interview piece for them too so there may be more to add shortly.

Carrying on the tradition of good indie rock bands that start with 'My First', My First Radio are releasing a single, Progress via the God is in the TV singles club. They're getting a fair bit of press. They're from Kettering and Corby. Is that where the trouser press comes from? Does it matter? When you think about it for long enough, does anything really matter? Regardless of these questions, it's quite a good single, and the A side is strong. It reminds me a bit of Remote Part era Idlewild, and it's rich, layered indie piano ballad with a Six by Seven wailing guitar kick halfway through. The B-side channels Bloc Party/Redjetson. Drowned in Sound should love it.
