I think perhaps the problem now is they wear their influences too overtly on their sleeves. Origin of Symmetry, probably their most original sounding record, has a plethora of sonic name checks but does manage to assimilate them into the overall sound. On 'The Resistance' you can't help but go, "this bit sounds like that, that sounds like that" pretty much all the way through.

This is pretty fair although I think MK Ultra is pretty crap too. Here here on the EP/Exogenesis thing. When will the major labels grow an imagination in their approach to format?!
