Sonisphere 2012 preview

sonisphere

This year’s Sonisphere line up is looking to be a highlight of every rocker’s calender, with Kiss, Queen and Faith No More all playing UK exclusives.

Taking place July 6th – 8th at Knebworth, Kiss open the weekend on the Friday. Expect massive boots, Gene Simmons’ waggly tongue and all the hits you can handle.

Kiss are touring behind their latest release ‘Monster’.

“You want the best, you got the best, the hottest band in the world…KISS”

Saturday night sees Queen joined by Adam Lambert. Filling in Freddie’s boots is no easy task, especially as Knebworth was the location of Queen’s last live performane with Mercury. But Lambert has shown he’s got the talent and the range to do the material justice. As a lifelong Queen fan this is one I’m really looking forward to.

Sunday night is closed by Faith No More, who reformed just over 3 years ago and have been playing select dates ever since. There was never a more idiosyncratic, fun and original band. With songs like ‘Midlife Crisis’ ‘Epic’ and (fingers crossed) ‘Just a Man’. They have a back catalogue many modern imitators would die for.

Sonisphere has shown that it’s more than just a metal fest, and this year Tim Minchin takes the comedy headlinne slot. Last year Bill Bailey gave a brilliant metal friendly set to an appreciative crowd. It’ll be interesting to see how Minchin’s slightly more subdued material fares.

Other weekend highlights include the mighty ‘Mastodon’, one of the highlights from last year. Cypress Hill stepping in for the token Hip Hop slot. Marilyn Manson who will hopefully redeem himself for his frankly shambolic recent performances on these shores, Wolfmother, Evanescence, who it turns out aren’t actually a type of shower gel, The Darkness, and Andrew W.K. : all gearing up to bring the noise and the fun times to a very large field just a little bit north or London. Yummy.
