Few will disagree that John Lydon is a complete tosser but few will deny that he has provided a degree of musical pleasure for them at some stage. The Sex Pistols epitomised everything that was British about punk rock and not all of it good, then, before punk was even withering, he formed Public Image Ltd. and created post punk. Charting the man’s activities through the current century reads like a scrapbook of craving for attention with little creativity via musical output. Well PiL reformed three years ago, albeit without the main original fellow protagonists and it’s taken them until now to throw together enough material to form an album. Said album has the imaginative title of ‘This Is PiL’, it’s out now and it ain’t bad. There’s less spit and more sawdust than before, but entertaining all the same. Listen to the attached and you decide.
