Track Of The Day #64: Extradition Order – Canoe

extcanoe

Extradition Order‘s ‘Canoe’ is a ramshackle self exploratory post-punk sermon for survival through the pain and struggle of the everyday.  Alastair’s vocals are like a smarter Mark E Smith, as he paddles across a bubbling sea of chirruping backing vox, and fractured instrumentals. It puts us in mind of Tiger‘s ‘Friends’.  Canoe‘s lyrics ‘expose the psychological problems of trying to get on with everyone you meet’  before collapsing into a tangle of limbs, melodic breakdowns and primal howls. Breathing life into the last embers of hope and defiance at the passing of time and regrets you cannot change, it might face darkness in the face but ‘Canoe’ is  simply revalatory.  Watch the video below!

Extradition Order have been making a mark in London with their insightful yet belligerently brilliant dark sound for a few years now, built around a gang of school friends from Warrington. E.O have been on our radar for quite a while a series of impactful shows and DIY releases caught Ian Button’s (Death in Vegas / Thrashing Doves) attention he has worked with them on their new split release the finest thing they’ve committed to record yet. Released via Helen Llewelyn Product 19 it consists of two EPs “Our Thoughts on Failure” which is “about the realistion that you’re just not going to be everything you wanted to be” and “Our Thoughts on Revenge” which talks of the steady, silent anger that results.”
