Busk on the Usk combines a program of events that includes gigs, discussions and lectures organised by us, The Green Man Festival – with help from the people of Newport as well as contributions from a collective of many of Wales’ most important cultural organizations including Swn Festival, the Do Lectures, the Laugharne Weekend, the Bevan Foundation, the Centre for Regeneration Excellence Wales, Riverfront Theatre, University of Wales Newport and Arts Council Wales.
Over the day, there will be live performances by bands and speakers together with street theatre along the riverfront Newport’s long-established Big Splash Festival and a wide-range of stalls serving locally sourced street food.
Best of all – every Busk on the Usk event is FREE from the box office at the Riverfront Theatre or online at www.newport.gov.uk
Although the riverfront entertainment outside is accessible by anyone, tickets for gigs and talks in the Riverfront Theatre and University of Wales Newport Campus are limited. Each individual music act has a separate free ticket pass (it’ll work like as if you were going to the cinema where there are a number of films in the same building – you can only see one at a time!) Simply choose which act/talk you want to see and request your free ticket pass from the Riverfront Theatre Box Office.
Cerebral stimulation on the day comes in the form of a series of seminars and talks on local regeneration and business. Speakers include David Hieatt (Huit Denim/the Do Lectures), Richard King (author of How Soon Is Now?), Dave Robinson (Stiff Records), James Lynch (Fforest Farm), Owen Hatherley (Militant Modernism/Guide to the New Ruins of Great Britain), BBC journalist Gareth Jones, Professor Dave Adamson OBE (Chief Executive of CREW) and Bob Croydon (one time representative of Princes Charles’ Foundation for the Built Environment). These seminars will run from 13.00 in the riverside University of Wales Campus.
Finally, the people behind the Laugharne Festival will present an afternoon of readings in the riverside University of Wales Campus…

plus SuperDragons II ON TOUR
The dragons are coming! In the summer of 2010 SuperDragons took over the city of Newport and were such a great success that the SuperDragons II project is about to begin – just in time for Busk on the Usk!
SuperDragons II are a new design, but still 1m50 high and all 60 will be individually painted, decorated and adorned by local artists and community groups to create Wales’ largest mass public appeal art event. Newport’s SuperDragons II will create a magical trail around the city, from the end of June to the end of September, which is sure to capture the imagination of both residents and visitors alike.
Half of the SuperDragons II will also be visiting Green Man to enjoy a few days of music and more outside of Newport.
