Flatbush Zombies – D.R.U.G.S. Mixtape

>flatbush zombies

Flatbush Avenue hasn’t had much to shout about, other than notable ex residents such as Busta Rhymes and Basketball star Michael Jordan, Flatbush Ave may have been best known for being the chosen victim in a Weird Al Yankovic parody, Ouch. But hold up, the voodoo powers that be have delivered 3 corpses that go by the names of Meech, Juice, and Erick Arc Elliott back from the dead to finally give Flatbush something to shout about, and what is the name these guys go by? Flatbush Zombies of course, real original….

Erick Arc Elliott is a name you may have heard of if you are familiar with the hip hop world, already having released 3 critically acclaimed solo albums; Erick is the producer/Zombie in demand at the moment, which becomes glaringly obvious in tracks such as SCOSA (Snorting Coke off a Strippers Ass) and Face-Off (a track which references the news story of the year so far: ‘A man chewed off another man’s face, zombie apocalypse aaaah!’)  where the beats bounce around and compliment Meech and Juice’s flow to such effect you can’t help but start nodding your head or pulling a ‘I look disgusted yet I am loving this song’ face.

Meech and Juice however are names you may not have heard of in the rap world before so to paint the picture if you haven’t heard of the Flatbush Zombies yet; Meech could pass for Ol’ Dirty Bastards son and Juice looks like a homeless Chris Brown, if Chris Brown had style. Ok, I’m glad we have that cleared up. Meech has the nastier, more aggressive flow of the duo which integrates cursively against Juice’s happier and energetic style.

D.R.U.G.S. is a 16 track mixtape which largely consists of the zombies trying to figure out which lane they want to go down, ‘Thug Waffle’ will be ingrained in your brain for days if not weeks whereas ‘Al Bundy’ is a more stripped down and laid back affair, the mixtape plays out in a cat and mouse game between the two styles.

D.R.U.G.S. is the first LP length material to have come from the Zombies, and with the rap game currently run by insipid spitters such as Drake and Lil Wayne, the genre needs boisterous, dynamic acts like Flatbush Zombies around.
